Houston ISD Runoff Election: 2 Incumbents Lose Board Seats

HOUSTON, TX — Conservative candidates Kendall Baker and Bridget Wade narrowly defeated incumbents to claim seats on the Houston ISD Board of Trustees in a runoff election Saturday. With all precincts reporting, Baker earned 50.7 percent of the vote, edging Holly Flynn Vilaseca by 78 total votes for her District 6 seat. Wade defeated Anne Sung in District 7, garnering nearly 53.8 percent of the vote. Two incumbents, Elizabeth Santos and Sue Deigaard, kept their seats in the Houston ISD runoff election. Santos narrowly held off a challenge from Janette Garza Lindner for her District 1 seat with 50.5 percent of the vote in a race decided by 41 votes, according to unofficial results. Deigaard earned 63.8 percent of the vote to defend her District 5 seat over Caroline Walter. Other Harris County Runoff Elections Incumbent Eva Loredo successfully defended her District 8 seat on the Houston Community College System Board of Trustees, earning nearly 52.8 percent of the vote to defeat challenger Jharrett Bryantt. In a Bellaire City Council runoff, Brian Witt defeated Andréa Ehlers for the Position 5 seat with nearly 52.7 percent of the vote.
