FAIRFAX, CA — A retaining wall collapsed amid the recent storm, triggering the closure of a major Fairfax road, town officials said Monday. The 2300 block of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard has reduced traffic to one lane with the eastbound lane closed for emergency repairs on a failed retaining wall left a massive void, town officials said The void, which appears to be at least 15-feet deep, is under the sidewalk and at least a part of the eastbound lane. The project could take up to two days to complete, town officials said. After consulting with Public Works Director Jonathon Goldman, and Town Engineer Mike Jewett, town officials said they believe the retaining wall is an imminent threat to life and property. "The roadway could collapse literally at any time as the creek flow continues to wash out dirt from behind the wall and under the road," town officials said in a statement.
