PROVIDENCE, RI — Rhode Island officially has a new U.S. Attorney. Zachary Cunha was sworn in at Providence City Hall Monday. Cunha's nomination was approved by the U.S. Senate last week, supported by Rhode Island Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse. "I am deeply humbled, and profoundly honored at the opportunity to lead the extraordinary women and men of this Office as we continue its long and proud tradition of seeking justice on behalf of each and every one of our fellow residents in the Ocean State," Cunha said. "I look forward to working closely with our partners in federal, state, and local law enforcement, as well as with communities and community leaders across Rhode Island, to maximize our impact on public safety and defend the public interest." Cunha already works in the U.S. Attorney's office in Rhode Island, serving as the chief of the civil division. He has spent most of his career working for the Department of Justice in three U.S. Attorneys Offices: Rhode Island, Massachusetts and the Eastern District of New York.
