LA GRANGE, IL — Lyons Township High School's administration is proposing a way to eliminate the possibility of more frequent power outages on North Campus, but it's going to come at a high cost. According to a school memo, an underground electrical vault on the west side of the building is blamed for two power outages in the last three years. The preferred solution to the problem is to install new equipment above ground in the same area. The school is expecting the cost to range from $500,000 to $650,000, which the memo labeled a "substantial" price. The memo also noted the west side of the building would be "visually impacted" by the project. The memo by Brian Stachacz, director of business services, said the school is waiting for ComEd to supply pricing for the new equipment. "It is important to note, however, that regardless of the cost, the project will need to commence in order to correct this issue," Stachacz said in the memo. "Without completion of this project, North Campus will continue to see more frequent power outages in the future." The school board is expected to discuss the project at its meeting Monday. Stachacz said it is important that the school bid the project as soon as possible because it needs to be completed next summer.
