Description
BERKELEY, CA — A traffic stop earlier this month led to the arrest of a suspect found to be in illegal possession of a gun, the Berkeley Police Department said.
The suspect, identified as a 22-year-old Oakland man, has been charged by the Alameda County District Attorney's Office on Tuesday with being a felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed firearm and several criminal enhancements, police said.
At around 8 p.m. on Dec. 3, an officer stopped a vehicle for running a red light in the area of Ashby Avenue and Seventh Street, police said.
The officer found a loaded handgun under a seat during a search of the vehicle, police said.
The suspect was driving without a license in a vehicle that hadn't been registered since it expired in 2017, police said.
