TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa County Commission will vote Wednesday morning on a $50,000 contribution to the Alabama Blues Project, which is based in Tuscaloosa and aims to promote the arts through connecting youth with blues music. Click here to subscribe to our free daily newsletter and breaking news alerts. If approved during the regular meeting, the money will come from District 4's discretionary fund budget at the request of County Commissioner Reginald Murray. The Alabama Blues Project was founded in 1995 by noted blues musicians Debbie Bond and Michael McCracken. The organization aims to "promote and preserve the Blues as a traditional and contemporary art form, with particular focus on the contribution from Alabama's great Blues musicians." Viewed as a noble and valuable endeavor by many in the Tuscaloosa arts community, the Alabama Blues Project prides itself on past collaboration with organizations such as Tuscaloosa One Place, Tuscaloosa City and County Schools, Hale County Schools, Wilcox County Schools, the University of Alabama, and the Police Athletic League. Here's a look at Wednesday's full agenda. Be sure to follow me from the meeting for more updates! Have a news tip or suggestion on how I can improve Tuscaloosa Patch?
