Unit commander Captain Jack Kennedy told local media Tuesday afternoon that the "explosion" initially reported could have several reasonable explanations, but did say there are no preliminary indications of foul play or criminal activity.
As Patch previously reported, Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue and the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to 6008 17th Street East on a house fire which the callers described as an "explosion."
"The house had been occupied by three persons, all family, at the time, and two were able to escape," Kennedy said. "A third subject was not, and was found deceased by Tuscaloosa Fire Fighters extinguishing the fire. The residence was fully involved at the time of first responders arrival. The victim's name will not be released at this time unless the family approves."
