Press release from Forsyth County Schools: The FoCAL Center is Officially Open! The FoCAL Center officially opened to the schools and community on Friday, December 3rd with a grand opening event followed by an open house for schools on Saturday, December 4th. Hundreds of people entered the building excited to tour the brand new space, experience the incredible features, and see students perform there for the first time.At the grand opening event on Friday, guests enjoyed an evening of delicious food served by FCS culinary arts teachers and students and building tours led by FCS students followed by a program recognizing individuals and businesses involved in the development of FoCAL and a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Special thanks to the sponsors of this event, who are listed below. At the event. The Mooney Group and Andean Chevrolet were announced as the first two facility sponsors of FoCAL. The Mooney Group is a Bravo level sponsor and will have their name on one of the VIP Rooms at the back of the theatre. The naming of The James and Dorothy Otwell Theatre presented by Andean Chevrolet was also revealed as Andean Chevrolet is the first Cresecndo Club donor. Huge thank you to these two donors for their support of FoCAL! The evening culminated with an award-winning Broadway performance by Georgia Stitt and Friends: Kate Baldwin and Terry Burrell.Then on Saturday, students and teachers from schools across FCS shared their artistic ability throughout the building all day. Student groups performed in the main theatre, rehearsal room, black box theatre, and lobby throughout The FoCAL Center, and performances included bands, choruses, theatrical acts, and even a square dance. Student artwork was also displayed through the building via electronic, 2D, and 3D displays Click here for a list of all schools (list is attached) who had students and teachers participate through a fine arts performance and/or visual arts.This weekend would not have been possible without the student volunteers from all high schools who helped with everything from concessions to tours. Thank you to all students and teachers who participated in this special opening weekend through artwork, performance, or volunteering.
