Description

WORCESTER, MA — Drivers in Worcester were being warned to avoid a major artery on Tuesday afternoon after an accident involving a semi-trailer and a rail bridge. The semi hit the Providence & Worcester rail bridge that crosses over Cambridge Street near Kansas Street at the far south end of the Green Island area. Cambridge was closed between Kansas and Quinsigamond Avenue, according to the city. The rail bridge, which has a 12-1/2 foot clearance, frequently floods during heavy rains, and sometimes poses a problem for over-height vehicles. In 2014, two separate tractor-trailers got stuck under the bridge in a single day. Please avoid Cambridge/Kansas and Cambridge/Quinsigamond due to a tractor trailer unit that has struck the bridge @TweetWorcester @WorcesterFD— Worcester EM (@WorcesterEM) December 14, 2021
