Vehicle Emissions Inspector Positions Details: • Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm • Duration: Approx. Two Months • Wage: $19.86 • Location: Portland, Oregon - Local Candidates Only Job Duties may include: • Repetitious bending, kneeling, and stooping • Lift approximately 25 pounds. • Stand and walk for extended periods. • Work in an environment that includes vehicle exhaust fumes, noise, and heat • Work in all weather conditions. " Work safely around operating motor vehicles. • Repetitive daily use of computers and keyboards. Vehicle inspection/ Emission test • Always follows all safety policies and procedures. • Makes visual inspections of motor vehicles and notifies customers that gasoline powered vehicles which emit blue smoke fail the emission test. • Directs vehicle driver to enter the test lane and indicates where the vehicle is to be stopped to conduct the emission test. • Instructs driver to apply the parking brake and place the transmission in neutral or park. May include placing wheel chocks if appropriate. • Instructs the driver on test procedures and/or provides direction to the customer waiting room. • Enters accurate emission test data into the computer system which may include opening the engine hood to determine the vehicle s emission control information or to ensure compliance with ORLEV and OBD II. • Performs and certifies Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) inspections for DMV. • Attaches emission test equipment to engine, OBD data link connector or inserts sample hose probe into the tailpipe depending on vehicle year, make and model. • Performs OBD II or two-speed idle emission tests using computerized emission test equipment in accordance with all test procedures and guidelines. • Issues vehicle test reports and explains test results to customer. If requested, renews vehicle registration, issues DMV tags and collects appropriate fees. • Other duties as needed Requirements: • Previous experience a plus • Past customer service experience • Ability to read, write and communicate paperwork effectively • Cash handling experience a plus • Be 18 or older.
