Mary Fisher Knott, an expert in Universal Design, will present this interactive CEU hosted by Studio 41 and Kohler Mary Fisher Knott, CID, Allied ASID, CLIPP, NKBA, has been a professional kitchen designer and space planner since 1963. During her lengthy career, she has designed more than 6,000 kitchens and received 8 professional awards. Employed by public utility companies for 12 years, she pioneered home modernization and energy conservation programs for residential customers, and since 1974 has designed kitchens and interiors independently for numerous private, commercial, and professional clients across the country. Specializing in ergonomic design applications for interior spaces, especially kitchens and baths, Mary regularly conducts ergonomic design/kitchen and bath planning seminars through the western United States and lectures on topics related to home improvement. The author of six books, magazine articles, and various publications about home planning, Mary appears frequently on radio and television and has had a text book titled Kitchen and Bath Basics published by John Wiley & Sons. President and CEO of the ErgonomicDesignCenter.com, Mary is releasing her most recent book, The Ergonomic Home, a living e-book available to members of the ergonomicdesigncenter.com. Mary is a Certified Living In Place Professional (CLIPP) and utilizes ergonomic design principles in her design practice, forming a team with medical professionals when the client requires special applications. Mary recently received her Non-Medical Ergonomist certificate. Celebrating 58 years as a professional designer, Mary shows no signs of slowing down. In this presentation, Mary will share insights into why ergonomics are important to all design projects, how to assess the physical needs of the occupants of a space, and what a designer's liability could be.
