Description

The MLK Committee will host a non-partisan Town Hall event featuring Millennial and Generation Z leaders. These days, Millennials and Generation Z are emerging and taking the reigns of leadership at every level. At the height of his transformative influence in our community, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., was the same age as the largest generation in American life today. During his 30s, Dr. King organized the March on Washington, wrote his powerful Letter from Birmingham Jail, and led the famed march from Selma to Montgomery. He was a prime example of how young people working to organize in their community can truly be the catalyst to change the world. As part of this year’s Dr. Martin, Luther King, Jr., Weekend Celebration, the Capri will be the site of a non-partisan Town Hall event featuring Millennial and Generation Z leaders discussing the importance of inclusion and equity in living out Dr. King’s legacy. Audience members will have the opportunity to engage with these young people - activists, educators, organizers, and lawmakers - in a true Town Hall style format, followed by informal breakout conversations following the event. Panelists include Mayor Timothy Ragland (Talladega, AL), Councilwoman March Johnson (Montgomery District 3), Dana Sweeney (Organizer, Alabama Appleseed), and Evan Reid (Law Fellow, Equal Justice Initiative).
