Team Framingham was formed for the 2014 Boston Marathon to formalize the process for distributing the entries provided the City of Framingham by the Boston Athletic Association (BAA), the organizers of the annual Boston Marathon. Entries are allocated via a random selection (lottery) held each fall. The lottery is open to all Framingham residents and to all employees of the City of Framingham municipal and school departments as well as employees of Keefe Technical School and the Christa McAuliffe Charter School. There is a fundraising requirement for all runners selected to join the team with funds going to five local charities who are also selected by lottery. The minimum fundraising requirement is $2,000 with a "stretch goal" of $4,000. Team Framingham runs one of the most comprehensive marathon training programs around. Our program includes 10 or 11 team training runs per marathon cycle, team meetings with guest speakers on fundraising techniques and marathon running, mentoring provided by experienced marathon runners from the Greater Framingham Running Club and much more. Of the 155 Team Framingham runners who have started the Boston Marathon, 154 runners have successfully crossed the finish line for a 99.4% success rate. And more than half of the runners selected each year have NEVER run a marathon in their lives! And the team fundraising is off the charts. In the 8 years of the Team Framingham program our runners have raised more than $638,000 for dozens of worthy Framingham focused charities!!
