Audiences are in for a unique concert experience when the Baltimore Mandolin Orchestra takes the stage at the Carroll Arts Center on Saturday, February 26 at 7:30pm.   Featuring 30 musicians, this orchestra plays an eclectic mix of mandolin arrangements, from rags, marches, and dance and pop tunes to short classical gems, grand Italian romantic pieces, and contemporary compositions. In addition to mandolins, this ensemble features some of the more exotic lower-range members of the mandolin family, including mandolas, mandocellos and mandobasses. The orchestra also often uses woodwinds, brass instruments, and vocal numbers to add color and variety to their concerts.   The Baltimore Mandolin Orchestra (BMO) is one of more than 35 active mandolin orchestras in the United States today. The aim of the original BMO, as stated in the program for one of its first concerts back in 1925, was "to play the best Mandolin Music and further the cause of fretted instruments." First organized in 1924 by German-born conductor, composer, and music teacher Conrad Gebelein, the BMO was revived in 1975. It continues today as a thriving, viable ensemble that performs throughout the Baltimore and south-central Pennsylvania area.   Tickets are $14 Adults / $10 ages 25 & Under and ages 60 & Up.
