The inaugural recognition event, "The Power of Giving" was hosted by the Tri-Valley Nonprofit Alliance (TVNPA) at the Bankhead theatre in Livermore last Tuesday, Dec 7 to acknowledge and celebrate the contributions, resilience and impact of nonprofits, local businesses, and community members throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. It was a special event bringing the Tri-valley community together in-person to honor the partnerships between donors and organizations who, together, made an immediate and significant impact in the region. Musical entertainment for the evening included a performance by David Victor, formerly of the band Boston and now Executive Director of Harmony & Healing and the emcee was Dr. Dyrrel Foster, President of Las Positas College. During lockdown an online piano recital fundraiser by local teenager Michael Hong also supported the Tri-Valley Nonprofit Fund and he gave an outstanding performance, dedicated to his grandfather, during the event while a screen displayed the names of all those community members who had contributed. The event highlighted many of the major contributors to numerous nonprofits serving our communities and improving the quality of life for Tri-Valley residents in need. While it was a stressful time for nonprofits to stay in operation there was also an urgent and ever increasing demand for services. TVNPA launched the Tri-Valley Nonprofit Fund (TVNF) to support the scaling of operations of six crucial safety-net service providers facing critical service delivery challenges during the pandemic lockdown. The Tri-Valley Nonprofit Fund raised $183,000 in unrestricted funds which was distributed to beneficiaries in three rounds of $10,500 per organization per round. Tri-Valley nonprofit leaders address attendees at the TVNPA "Power of Giving" Event at the Bankhead Theater The organizations receiving the funding were: a. Axis Community Healthb. Open Heart Kitchenc. CityServe of the Tri-Valleyd. Tri-Valley Havene. Senior Support of the Tri-Valleyf. Spectrum Community Services (Meals on Wheels) Each of the beneficiaries had an opportunity to report on the usage of those funds at the "Power of Giving" event and highlight the services provided to those struggling during lockdown. Organizations also recognized those core volunteers that stepped up to serve and provide much needed care in a time where demand for services was rapidly increasing. Donors to the TVNF ranged from large corporates to students, teachers and religious groups who creatively raised funds and supplies through holding mask-a-thons, donation drives, neighborhood group events, Facebook fundraisers, and even online music recitals. There were heartbreaking accounts of homeless people who had lost jobs due to the pandemic, of isolated and lonely elderly individuals needed check-in visits and transportation to medical appointments, of those who were victims of abuse during lockdown and needed a safe place to stay and of rampant food insecurity. Collectively these nonprofits were able to ramp up operations with the support of the TVNF. Demand for services and volunteers however continues. The Tri-Valley Nonprofit Alliance has recognized the ongoing need for unrestricted funding for nonprofit operational success. Consequently, TVNPA is developing an ongoing quarterly grant program to provide unrestricted funding to TVNPA member organizations and nonprofits serving the Tri-Valley region.
