CLEVELAND, OH — Twin 9-year-olds died in a house fire that sent five adults and three children to the hospital on Sunday, officials with the Cleveland Fire Department said.
The fire was reported at 12:30 a.m. in the 1400 block of West 54th Street in a multi-unit home that had no working smoke detectors, a department spokesman told WKYC in Cleveland on Sunday.
The spokesman said the cause of the fire was said to be electrical. The spokesman said the twins, a boy and a girl, died from their injuries after being taken to MetroHealth Medical Center.
Lt. Mike Norman told Cleveland.com that it is not known whether the smoke detectors were working before the fire started or if they melted in the blaze. Firefighters are still working the scene of the fire, which remains under investigation.
