This position will also be required to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.* Obie Companies and the 5th Street Public Market are looking for an experienced PAINTER to join our team! The primary objective of the Painter/Laborer is to complete painting and other general labor projects as assigned by Obie Companies Management and in accordance with Obie Companies standards. Assignments will be largely focused on painting projects on the interior and exterior of Obie Companies properties but may also include general labor from time to time. General Labor projects will require some Maintenance capabilities, including drywall patching, assembly, lifting, etc. The Painter/Laborer must have proven experience as a painter and retain excellent knowledge of commercial and/or construction painting techniques. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Painter/Laborer Prep and paint the interior and exterior of structures, buildings, and other surfaces for properties owned and managed by Obie Companies. On-site preparations such as masking, covering fixtures, laying drop cloths, etc. Prepare walls and other surfaces for painting by power washing, scraping, using sandpaper, removing old paint, etc. Paint surfaces according to instructions with various tools. Apply varnish and other finishes as needed. Cleaning-up after a project’s completion. Discard all trash and return tools, equipment, and unused materials to the appropriate storage location. Match colors and other finishes to yield desired colors. Completing and turning in required paperwork during each shift. Abiding by checklists and tasks as assigned. Work effectively and cooperatively with staff, customers, vendors, and contractors. Take and adhere to all health and safety precautions. Regular attendance is of primary importance for every position. You are expected to arrive for work on time and be ready to start work at the beginning of your scheduled shift. You are also expected to complete your shift as scheduled. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications 3+ years in Painting Trade (with additional training and experience in project management and safety), required. 2+ years in General Maintenance, preferred. Comprehensive knowledge of the methods and techniques of surface preparation and paint application. Knowledge of the characteristics of different types of paints and protective coverings. Ability to operate power and hand tools such as airless sprayer, pressure washer, drills, and sanders. Knowledge of safety practices relating to the painting trade including hazardous waste disposal and storage. General knowledge of plastering and paperhanging techniques. Work Environment This position operates in indoor and outdoor settings. This role routinely uses standard painting hand and power tools, including brush, rollers, and spray equipment. Additionally, this role will frequently use other maintenance equipment, to include: power washers, ladders, boom-lifts, and other rigging. The noise level is usually moderate to loud. Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this role, the employee is regularly required to lift, push, carry, and pull up to 50 pounds. This position will frequently climb up and down ladders and will stand for long-periods of time. Certain areas within the marketplace are only accessible by stairs.
