Antonio Vivaldi, Fanny Mendelssohn and a special commissioned piece by Andover's Demetrius Spaneas!
Andover Choral Society returns on February 6, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at Christ Church in Andover, MA, for it's first live performance in two years. The concert will feature three works: Antonio Vivaldi’s brilliant and beloved Gloria; Hiob (Job), a melodious and masterfully crafted cantata by Fanny Mendelssohn (the talented sister of composer Felix Mendelssohn); and the world premiere of a new choral work commissioned by Andover Choral Society, becoming, by local composer Demetrius Spaneas. Drawing on texts from ancient Indian Hinduism, Greek and Roman mythology, Sufi mysticism, and the Book of Genesis, becoming explores the spiritual evolution of humankind as well as our relationship with our world and all of creation.
Andover Choral Society is dedicated to presenting exceptional performances, connecting to the larger community, and fostering an appreciation of choral music. The chorus performs two concerts per year, singing a repertoire that focuses on fine choral and choral-orchestral works from the Baroque era to the present day.
