The NYS Folklore Society presents the first date in a three-part showcase of our region's artistic diversity. "Act" 1: Aurelius John plays the, Dholak, Dhol and Tabla and Shaman Raphael is a Harmonium (also known as pump organ) player. Both grew up in the city of Lahore, capital of the Punjab Province in southern Pakistan. Aurelius and Shaman have been playing since they were young and routinely performs in the area along with other Pakistani musicians in religious and social gatherings. They will be accompanied by Daniel Walayat. ( "Act" 2: Veena and Devesh Chandra Veena is an internationally renowned sitarist, composer, teacher and choreographer. She is the founder and director of the Dance and Music School of India in Latham, NY where she teaches Indian classical music. She has been a faculty member at Skidmore College. She has been performing and teaching sitar for the last 60 years. She continued her advance training under the late Ustad Vilayat Khan Saheb. Ustad Vilayat Khan Saheb very much enjoyed listening to her Sitar and grew very close to Veena and her son Devesh. http://www.veenachandra.com/about.html New York Folklore is a membership organization, open to all, concerned with furthering cultural equity and strengthening the understanding of the role of folk and traditional arts in our lives. We support folk and traditional artists, community cultural experts, community-based cultural organizations, and academic and public sector folklorists. In accordance with CDC, state, and local recommendations, The Linda will require all patrons, staff, and artists to show proof of vaccination against Covid-19. In addition all guests patrons and artists must wear facemasks regardless of vaccination status. This is being done as a safety measure to ensure the health and well-being of our staff, artists, and guests while continuing to provide a top-shelf live experience. Facemasks may be removed while eating or drinking. All ticket sales are final. Refunds can be issued in the event of event postponement or event cancellation. Credit can be issued upon request in extenuating circumstances.
