The CEC, a coalition of about 100 environmental organizations, has been working to foster dialogue, education, and collaboration on environmental issues in the Houston/Gulf Coast region since before its incorporation in 1971. The Houston Green Film Series, organized by the CEC, was launched in 2010 by a coalition of four non-profit, grassroots, environmental organizations. The purpose of this coalition was to bring awareness to the environmental crisis through the visual arts by presenting films with an environmental focus to the Houston community. In addition to showing an environmental film, a panel of experts is invited to lead a proactive discussion with the audience about the topic at hand. In addition to hosting the film series and the Wild About Houston Green Film Festival, CEC helps organize Earth Day Houston, hosts the Greater Houston Environmental Summit, and produces a free, weekly newsletter with comprehensive information about local environmental activities and opportunities.
