The old days

Description

There was a time when a musician playing a casual gig that ended at around midnight could go and vist friends playing a steady gig on their last set that ended at 1:00am. Then the fun starded. We'd all have a last drink and have a jam session for about an hour. The security guard would tell us to leave. Then we'd all go out, have breakfast and go home and sleep until Noon. When I say friends, I'm talking old timers who knew the business inside out. You could choose your jam session. Dixiland players, Jazz players, Blues Players. You name it, it was out there. Developing chops is what that was all about. Man, if you couldn't develop your own style sittin in with those guys, you might as well get out of the business. If you became really good, everyone wanted you on their gig, whether as a side man or lead player and you ALWAYS had money in your pocket. It's sad to see that the only way to jam now days is to pray to Craig and hope he can answer your prayers. Sad!
