Six new ballets set to six world premieres for vocal sextet. Co-presented by IlluminArts and in collaboration with two Miami-based Dimensions Dance Theater, “To Reach the Light” will feature six newly commissioned pieces by composers from across the United States and Europe. This performance will feature original choreography by Dimensions Dance Theater, continuing Variant 6’s interest in multimedia collaboration. In the summer of 2020, we asked each composer to write a piece based on ideas of transformation, adaptation, growth, and change. The result is six wildly different compositions, each reflecting in some way the composer’s thoughts and feelings from that time. Subject matter ranged from the deeply personal (including words from the members of Variant 6) to more general examinations of grieving and loss. Join Variant 6 for our most ambitious project yet! We'll be performing at the Riverside Pavillion at the beautiful Glen Foerd on the Delaware river. COVID-19 POLICY All audience members must show proof of vaccination at the door. Audience will also be required to wear masks for the entirety of the performance. Variant 6 performs virtuosic vocal chamber music in innovative programs and unique spaces. With only six musicians, we cultivate an intimate approach to a capella music while pushing the boundaries of what individual voices can accomplish together. Our concerts are designed to subvert a listener’s expectations for repertoire and programming by placing music from centuries apart in stark juxtaposition. Hoping to simultaneously challenge and engage, we seek to create performances that constantly surprise our listener.
