OBOL SEEKS DRUMMER

Meets

Seattle WA

Description

Obol plays dark cinematic rock. Sometimes heavy, sometimes proggy, always melodic. People who see us live mention how we remind them of Placebo, Muse, or A Perfect Circle. Our singer/songwriter has roots in world music (Dead Can Dance) and our sound lead / guitarist loves heavy rock (Extreme) so there is a crunchy “East meets Western metal” sound to our music. To get a better sense of it, check out our songs on bandcamp, spotify, or click the links below. Who we're looking for: All ages, races, genders, and sexualities are welcome. We keep the vibe friendly and supportive. We try to avoid an intimidating audition process because it really is more of a personality fit. Some of what we do is tricky, but you do not have to be a virtuoso. We will work with the right person to bring them up to speed. What's up next: We are an established creative and gigging band, with roots in Seattle and collaborative relationships with several bands and venues. There is always a show on the horizon, so we try to keep our focus on new material, and we have a backlog of song sketches to refine, evolve, and record together. Our process + your creativity: We have a queue of songs sketches to tackle. Each song part can be refined and evolved by the musicians, to make the songs even more amazing, but hopefully not losing the original hooks that made the sketch work. Obol is not a jam band. Example: Song sketch before band involvement: http://www.obolband.com/sounds/Hive.mp3 Same song after band evolution: http://www.obolband.com/sounds/Obol%20-%20Hive.mp3 You can hear how the song parts are similar from sketch to final, but also how the drums and guitars have evolved, new ideas added, and other significant changes (more bells, less piano, etc.), to make the final product more powerful. Variety: Some parts are dance-able, others are frantic, sad or dreamy. There is a lot of variety. We are looking for a drummer who understands and enjoys dynamics, remembers which parts should be quiet or loud, when to simplify, and when to take center stage. You: Have your own kit and experience, are open to using a metronome, and like the sound of everything above. We're fairly organized and respectful of each other's time, so please come to practice sober with your stuff set up & ready to go! We usually practice twice a week to keep momentum on the shows + new material, and can work with you on the timing of practice. If you're interested, or just want to learn more and stay in touch, send us a message! We're happy to answer any questions. You can also contact us via Facebook, Instagram, our site, or whatever you prefer. Thanks for your time. - Jun and Barry from Obol
