Boston Man Cited After Driving Into Parked State Police Cruiser

CONCORD, NH — A Massachusetts man was cited for traveling too fast for the existing roadway conditions after being accused of crashing into a New Hampshire State Police cruiser on Saturday. Around 8 a.m., a state trooper assisting at a crash scene on Interstate 89 North in Warner was sitting in his cruiser when another vehicle struck the car. The other vehicle, a Toyota Camry, was being driven by Daniel Chen, 34, of Boston, MA, who was accused of losing control of the car upon approaching the crash scene. "(The) cruiser was stationary in the right breakdown lane with the blue emergency lights activated," according to Sgt. Daniel Livingstone of Troop D. "Both the cruiser and the other vehicle were damaged but neither (the) trooper or Mr. Chen were injured." Livingstone said freezing rain was falling at the time and the roadway was covered with ice. He accused Chen of "traveling too fast for the existing roadway conditions and was therefore unable to maintain control of his vehicle as he approached the previous emergency scene." Livingstone said state police were called to 53 accidents on Saturday due to the weather conditions. He said drivers should be mindful of speed during inclement weather. "Drivers are also asked to be aware of the move-over law which requires motorists to give emergency vehicles a wide berth," he said. "This includes police and fire vehicles as well as tow trucks, DOT trucks, and any other kind of service vehicle with blue, red, or yellow flashing lights."
