Description
I'm looking for someone to adopt my father's 8-year old St. Bernard, Pongo. He is a pure-bred and has not been neutered. He was adopted by my father, but my father has recently passed away due to cancer and while I've been doing my best to take care of Pongo and his other St. Bernard, I just do not have the means to do so unfortunately as I am moving soon. Pongo is very loyal and when he gets comfortable around people, becomes a giant baby that just wants to protect and snuggle those he loves. He is a dog that will be your best friend for life once he gets to know you and is full of personality. He is at heart, a giant baby that just wants to be pampered and loved. Unfortunately, he does not get along well with young children, cats, or small dogs. He can be okay around other dogs, but will stand up for himself if challenged. He is best with other large, non-confrontational dogs or alone. He is also uneasy around small children, but is okay with older kids and teens. When around new people he can get excited and bark, but he is not aggressive. He has been sharing my father's house with his other St. Bernard, Duke and they have gotten along rather well. Pongo is a very loyal and can be defensive when he feels other dogs are taking too much attention from him (he can get rather jealous) or challenging him. Also, towards the end of my father's battle with cancer, Pongo had a flea problem that wasn't taken care of, causing him to scratch the back knees of his front legs raw. Since getting Pongo after my father's passing, I've taken care of the fleas while also treating the scratching wounds. Although. they still need time to heal. I'm asking for a $150 adoption/re-homing fee for Pongo to ensure that he goes to a good home with someone who can properly take care of him. I believe he has been chipped, but I am unsure when he last had his shots. I'm fairly certain he had gotten some during a checkup in June 2020, but besides that, I am unsure. If interested, please contact me by replying to this via message/email. I will be doing short phone interviews with all potential adopters to ensure that he goes to a home that he is comfortable in.
