Here are the 5 top stories today in Atlanta: A storm system that moved through the central part of the U.S. overnight Friday, spawning an estimated 30 tornadoes across six states and killing at least 70 people in Kentucky alone, brought heavy rain and wind to metro Atlanta Saturday afternoon. While the system had weakened significantly by the time it moved through Georgia, there were reports of power outages and trees down around metro Atlanta, as well as some flooding on roadways. More than 16,000 customers were without power as storms swept through the area. The bridal boutique is located next to the Synchronicity Theatre on Peachtree Street, near Savannah College of Art and Design, Atlanta. The extent of damages to the shop are still unknown. (11Alive.com WXIA) Stargazers take note: Tonight the comet Leonard, dubbed the "Christmas comet" for its yuletide timing, will be as close as it will get to Earth after an eons-long orbit. To glimpse the comet's tail - visible for days to come - astronomers advise scanning the eastern sky just before sunrise. Leonard will pass between Arcturus β the fourth-brightest star in the night sky, and the brightest in the northern constellation of BoΓΆtes β and the handle of the Big Dipper. (Atlanta Patch)Passengers on a crowded plane train at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport Wednesday evening may have been exposed to a passenger with COVID-19. Video sent to Channel 2 Action News shows what appears to be two Centers for Disease Control and Prevention workers and a police officer escorting a person the officer said has COVID-19 on the airport's plane train. A statement issued by the CDC Friday read, "CDC works with Hartsfield-Jackson and federal and local partners to respond to ill travelers. CDC, the airport, and other partners have an established protocol to address any issues that may occur. CDC and participating partners work hard to protect passengers, airport employees, and emergency responders from public health threats." (WSB Atlanta)One of the best views of the city from one of the highest points in Atlanta will soon be accessible for the first time in 25 years when a green space in northwest Atlanta reopens. Chain-link fences erected in preparation for the 1996 Olympics at the corner of Howell Mill Road and 17th Street at the Atlanta City Water Works Hemphill Reservoir are being moved back, creating a two-acre green space that shows the beautiful skyline of Atlanta.
