Description
Join us for our final event in 2021! We'll share a meal and learn about landscape lighting from Landscape Forms. This month our chapter meeting is sponsored by SESCO Lighting and presented by David Pauwels , East Regional Lighting Sales , Landscape Forms, Inc. Urban Lighting & Space Design The goal of this course is for you to acquire a better understanding of how our ever-evolving urban spaces need more opportunities for humans to connect, interact, and live. We will focus on how the city of Denver – pioneers of the urban pedestrian mall concept – have reimagined the 16th Street Mall and the approach to lighting the space to better address the needs of the human inhabitants using the space. Objectives At the end of this program, participants will know: • Explore the original lighting design of the 16th Street Mall and the goals that were set in place for both day and nighttime space activation. • Discuss the evolution of the 16th Street Mall and how both the lighting design and the luminaire itself has changed, which has led to significant repercussions for the space. • Discuss the approach that was taken to reinvigorate and energize the pedestrian mall space and how the new luminaire design needed to work within the space to accomplish these goals. • Examine the impacts that this new lighting design has on the space and how it will continue to evolve over time and what the future holds for this pedestrian space. • Discuss how the 16th Street Mall, an early adopter of a pedestrian mall, has set the precedent for other pedestrian centric spaces. 1 LU|CEU AIA Chattanooga is the local chapter of the American Institute of Architects, a national professional organization with more than 95,000 members. Organized in 1953, we serve members in the greater Chattanooga area, including Ringgold, Ga., and Cleveland, Tenn., as well as several surrounding counties. The AIA is the voice of the architectural community. We advocate at the national, state, and local levels for issues affecting the practice of architecture and work to educate the public on the important role of architects. We help our membership stay connected with other local professionals and keep them informed about local, state, and national issues. One important function of the AIA is to maintain high standards of continuing education for all its members. AIA members are required to complete 18 hours of continuing education each year on a wide variety of technical topics each year--6 hours more than required by the state of Tennessee. This continuing education keeps AIA member architects on top of developing industry trends and technical matters.
