Kaizen club

Description

I want to start a Kaizen club in RI or nearby CT / MA. KAIZEN is a Japanese word meaning improvement. In an industrial setting, it's a "continuous improvement" tool; people are encouraged to put forth ideas for improving processes, etc. regardless of their position within their organization. On a personal level, some folks use it as a way to make changes to their habits, manage fear, achieve goals, etc. I learned about it several years ago in a book called "One Small Step Can Change Your Life: The Kaizen Way" by Robert Maurer. He's a clinical psychologist who has helped his clients make small, incremental changes that end up having a large, positive impact. One of the key parts of that process is accountability. If a client was afraid of snakes, for example, he might start the process by having the person look at a photo of a snake for a minute a day between sessions. Then the next week it might be looking at a photo of 2 snakes for 2 minutes. Each day, the client would call in to leave a message saying that they'd done the 'homework'. I want to start a club here in Southern New England in which folks can follow that example. We would: 1. state a goal that we have struggled to attain 2. discuss small steps to take 3. commit to one another that we will do the step each day, for the agreed upon amount of time 4. report / check in (via text, maybe?) with one another to confirm that we've completed it. I figure a short weekly videoconference would be enough to share goals, progress, etc. and make small adjustments to the task for the coming week. This group will have real people talking about real things they want to do in real life. - This group will NOT have trolls, catfish, creeps, spam, or other unwanted behavior. - This group will NOT have your grandson rolling his eyes because you can't find the icon for that app everyone in your family wants you to have. - This group will NOT have members giving advice or therapy (that's what therapists are for). - This group will NOT have attendance requirements (if you can't make a meeting or two, we're not going to throw you out!) - This group will NOT have judgement of one another's goals, progress, etc. - This group will NOT have your brother-in-law laughing at the idea of you writing a book. - This group will NOT have political discussions of any kind, EVER. If this sounds like it might work for you, please reply; SERIOUS INQUIRIES ONLY. PS: my husband and I live near URI, but I'm willing to include folks from all over Southern NE.
