Press release from the Delaware Technical Community College: December 2, 2021 Two outstanding individual performances have earned members of Delaware Technical Community College's men's and women's basketball teams conference and national honors. Syed Myles of the men's team and Daqira Lancaster-Navarro of the women's team earned Player of the Week honors for the Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (EPAC) for the week of Nov. 29. Each player led their respective teams to wins over Raritan Valley Community College on Nov. 23. Delaware Tech joined EPAC in 2020, and Myles and Lancaster-Navarro are the first student-athletes to earn this honor for Delaware Tech. In addition, Lancaster-Navarro earned national honors when she was also named NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Dec. 1. "This is an exciting time for Delaware Tech Athletics as we continue to strengthen our brand in the state of Delaware, the EPAC, and NJCAA Region 19," Collegewide Director of Athletics Mike Ryan said. "Having Syed and Daqira recognized as EPAC players of the week is a testament to the efforts put forth by our athletics staff, coaches, and the student-athletes." Lancaster-Navarro (Newark/Delcastle High School) was sensational in leading her team to an 84-70 win. She scored 48 points and pulled down 19 rebounds. Her 48 points is the most scored by a Delaware Tech basketball player, male or female, since at least 2018. For the season, Lancaster-Navarro is averaging 31.5 points per game and 17 rebounds per game. "(Daqira) is the heart of our team," Head Coach Megan Fox said. "She always sets the tone and never takes a play off. She is willing to do whatever it takes to get a 'W' for our program. She is a workhorse who never takes her foot off the gas." Myles (Camden/Caesar Rodney High School) led the men's team to a 105-101 overtime upset victory by scoring 36 points with 7 rebounds and 5 assists. He was also clutch at the free throw line, shooting 19-for-20 including two key free throws with 2.7 seconds remaining to tie the game and send it into overtime. For the season, Myles is averaging 18.3 points per game and 4.8 rebounds per game. This press release was produced by the Delaware Technical Community College.
