Description
ROCKVILLE, MD — Drivers and pedestrians are now permitted to use Baltimore Road between Gladstone and Broadwood Drives, the City of Rockville said in a news release. The road closed in June while a construction crew "replaced the roadway culvert at the stream crossing near Rockville Cemetery, relocated water lines, installed storm drain connections and restored the stream," the city said.
Crews also installed new storm drain pipe and inlets, a new curb and gutter, and pervious sidewalks between First Street and Woodburn Road.
Work will still continue, even after the road's opening. Base paving, sidewalk installation and restoration on the block of Baltimore Road between Denham and Woodburn roads is expected to be done in mid-December, and the installation of a new sanitary sewer along westbound Baltimore Road should be done in mid-January.
The city said storm drains and sidewalks between Woodburn Road and Edmonston Drive will be installed at some point, but residents will be notified before that work starts. That will be one of the final phases of this Baltimore Road project, which is intended to improve safety.
