LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — A man killed himself at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center on Thursday, according to a report from the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office. Authorities identified the man as 70-year-old Vildan Jahja of Ashburn.
The incident occurred just before 4 p.m. on Thursday. Police claimed that surveillance video shows the man jumping from the second floor of a general population housing unit. He landed headfirst on the floor, the sheriff's office said.
Medical personnel and deputies responded and attempted to provide emergency medical attention. Rescue personnel arrived on the scene on the scene and attempted additional lifesaving measure. Jahja was pronounced dead at the scene.
His death is being investigated by the sheriff's office and the Office of the Medical Examiner.
Jahja was brought to the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center on April 19, 2021. He was charged with violating a protective order and felony attempted malicious wounding.
According to court records, Jahja pleaded guilty to both charges in July.
On Thursday morning, Jahja received a 10-year sentence. However, six years and 10 months were of the sentence were suspended, meaning he would've been required to spend three years and two months in prison.
