Press release from the El Paso Community College: December 11, 2021 El Paso Community College (EPCC) held its Fall 2021 Commencement in two ceremonies at the Don Haskins Center. The 3,230 students who were eligible for graduation after either the Summer and Fall 2021 semesters received their associate's degree or Certificate of Completion. Graduates who were part of the Spring and Fall classes of 2020 and Spring 2021 virtual graduations also took part in the event. Dr. William Serrata, EPCC President was the Master of Ceremony. "Graduation recognizes the prosperous futures of students who have completed their academic journey," Dr. Serrata said. "Graduating from college exemplifies a student's determination to continue and persevere." Guest Commencement Speaker was Emma Wollschlager Schwartz, who gave exciting words of encouragement to the graduates, family and friends in attendance. Mrs. Schwartz is President of the Medical Center of the Americas (MCA) Foundation, a non-profit operating in El Paso, Texas and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. The MCA developed the first biomedical incubator in the region – the Cardwell Collaborative (60,000 sf) – and the first free-standing mental health clinic for veterans (33,000 sf). EPCC focuses on completion to increase graduation rates and to prepare students with marketable skills for gainful employment. EPCC serves nearly 25,000 students and offers 145 degree and certificate programs. Since 1969, the college has remained focused on engaging students, growing community partnerships and fostering excellence. By creating a college-going culture and implementing innovative student success initiatives, EPCC is transforming the pathway to higher education and building a stronger workforce for our region.
