Description

Greetings! Here are some highlights of interest to Merrimack from the State House: - No Tolls in Merrimack starting January 1, 2022: The budget which passed earlier this year (HB 2) eliminated the last of the Merrimack tolls. Starting January 1, 2022, there will be no toll collections at Exit 10. See HB 2 (2021) sections 91:389 – 91:390 here: http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/bill_Status/billinfo.aspx?id=1080&inflect=2 - Higher than Expected Cases of Kidney and Renal Cancers in Merrimack: Sadly, the report presented on December 10, 2021 by the NH Department of Health and Human Services to the Commission on the Environmental and Public Health Impacts of Perfluorinated Chemicals reported higher cases of kidney and renal cancers in Merrimack than expected. Although too early to know if there's a connection between the cases and environmental factors, the report is troubling. Here is the NH DHHS press release: https://www.dhhs.nh.gov/media/pr/2021/12102021-cancer-report.htm Here is the NH DHHS Fact Sheet on the subject: https://www.dhhs.nh.gov/dphs/cdpc/documents/merrimack-faqs.pdf If you have specific questions or concerns, contact the Cancer Concern Review Team by email at [email protected] or phone (603) 271-4959. - A NH Department of Energy: The budget (HB 2) passed this year created a Department of Energy in New Hampshire. The purpose is "to govern energy and utilities matters, and have oversight on matters under the public utilities commission." See HB 2 (2021), section 59. See HB2 (2021) sections 12-P:1 – 12-P:15 here: http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/bill_Status/billinfo.aspx?id=1080&inflect=2 - New Legislative Website: After approximately 20 years, the House has revised its website. I've always been very impressed with the accessibility of information on the site and now it is updated to be even more user friendly. See the site here: http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/ - Community Happenings: Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas, happy holidays, and a happy new year! Rep. Maureen Mooney is in her fourth term as a NH State Representative serving Merrimack. Her website is: www.votemooney.com and Facebook page is: https://www.facebook.com/maureenmooneynh.
