NEWTOWN, PA — The Newtown Township Police Department responded to several incidents between Dec. 3 and Dec. 9, including a stolen laptop and fraudulently-purchased flat-screen TV. Read their report: Friday, Dec. 3 12:15 a.m. — Police stopped a black Dodge Ram pick-up truck for a vehicle code violation on the Newtown Bypass, near Newtown Langhorne Road. While speaking with the driver, the officer smelled alcohol. When the driver couldn't perform field sobriety tests, they were placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results. 2:30 p.m. — Police were dispatched to TD Bank on West Road for a report of fraud. A white man in his sixties tried to take out $4,000 from an account that was not his with a fake I.D. The man left on foot when bank employees grew suspicious. Upon arrival, police surveyed the area but did not find the man. Sunday, Dec. 5 4:45 p.m. — A complainant called the police to report fraud, saying someone opened a credit card and bought an $850 flat-screen TV from Best Buy in his name. The purchase and credit card were canceled and the complainant didn't lose any money. Monday, Dec. 6 11:15 a.m. — A complainant called police to report a theft, saying he ordered a laptop online but never received it. FedEx had indicated that the laptop was delivered. The total value lost was $2,500. Thursday, Dec. 9 3 p.m. — Police stopped the driver of a white Mercedes for a code violation on the Newtown Bypass near Buck Road. The officer detected several signs of impairment when speaking with the driver. The driver was unable to satisfactorily perform field sobriety tests, and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. The driver refused to submit to chemical testing.
