Description
I am trying to build a neighborhood food forest in Springfield, and I simply don’t have the time and stamina to do everything I want to get done. The pandemic threw a huge wrench into these works.
What I do have is a PDC and more importantly a good deal of practical experience with the process of building a food forest. I volunteered for almost 6 years at the Beacon Food Forest in Seattle, and lead task crews for over four of that. I have barely had anyone to pass knowledge onto since well before the pandemic.
If you are starting out or still trying to acquire land for yourself, we might be able to help each other. I’ll be doing plant propagation here for the first time in the spring. I have cleared 2/3rds of a nursery space but only have plans for perhaps a third of it. I like to clone plants but don’t like growing clones, so I will be looking to barter what survives for things I don’t have or different gene lines of what I do.
If you do have space of your own, we could occasionally alternate project sites, but mostly I’m seeking time, labor and potentially plant stock in trade for my knowledge and some plant stock. I am also open to loaning nursery space and some supplies.
This would be a few hours a week, (I don’t think I could manage more than 10), for as long as you’re interested.
I can supply good tools, but gloves and clothing would be your responsibility. I am two blocks from public transportation and the trails. I can’t provide restroom facilities without proof of vaccination, please. We have at-risk family members.
