UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Five people were injured in a fire in an Upper East Side apartment building Thursday afternoon, authorities said.
The fire broke out around 3:19 p.m. on the 10th story of 311 East 72nd St., a 16-story building between First and Second avenues.
It quickly reached a second alarm, bringing about 100 firefighters to the scene. After applying water to the fire, crews finally got it under control at 4:35 p.m., an FDNY spokesperson said.
Five people — all civilians — suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to the FDNY.
The fire prompted an emergency response and sent plumes of smoke into the neighborhood.
