Ivey Awards $305K Grant To Community Service Programs Of West AL

MONTGOMERY, AL — Gov. Kay Ivey's office on Friday announced almost $2.8 million to be given for programs across the state who work to help lift low-income residents from poverty, including some in the west Alabama area. The federal Community Services Block Grants, which will be administered by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs, will be distributed to 18 community action agencies to provide services to eligible individuals and families in Alabama. The agencies will then use the funds for a range of programs including ones that teach the skills and knowledge to obtain jobs, help participants maintain the ability to stay in their homes and provide emergency assistance to prevent further declines in their lives. Ivey's office said the types of assistance will be determined by the local agencies based on needs of their regions. West Alabama agencies include: Walker County Community Action Agency Inc. – $50,488 (Walker County)Pickens County Community Action Committee and Community Development Corp.
