Description
A startlingly original story of risk, money, & power in the founding era! Hannah Farber, an assistant professor of history at Columbia University, and author of the new book, Underwriters of the United States, will be at The Insurance library to discuss the role of the transnational system of marine insurance in shaping the founding of the United States. Her book relates how during the Revolutionary War, marine insurers helped the new country negotiate foreign loans, sell state debts, and establish a national bank and how they increased their influence after the war by lending money to the federal government and its citizens. How do I attend the event? There will be limited tickets available to join us in-person at The Library. For those who prefer to join virtually, The Library will send you a link to the Zoom login prior to the event. What should I know for the In-Person Event? All attendees will be required to wear a face mask. If you are exhibiting any COVID symptoms or feel unwell in any way, we ask that you join us via zoom. All staff and the presenters have been vaccinated. We will have an air purifier and will promote social distancing to the extent possible. When attending virtually do I have to have my camera on? Having your camera on makes the event feel more like an in-person gathering so we encourage it. We will also take screen shots during the event and may use them on our website and in social media posts after the event. It is by no means a requirement for attendance. How can I contact the organizer with any questions? Email Sarah Hart at: [email protected] The Insurance Library was founded in 1887 and is the leading resource for and provider of literature, information services and quality professional education for the insurance industry and related interests. The founders sought to make The Insurance Library "the best thing of the sort in the world!" We're still carrying out that vision today by being your insurance information destination.
