MahoganyBooks is proud to host a special evening with Spike Lee (guest host to be announced)! Doors open at 6:00 PM, event begins at 7:00 PM. Please Note: vaccine cards or proof of a negative Covid test within 72 hours of the event (Dec. 13 or later), are required to attend. We are honored to invite you to join Oscar-winning filmmaker and cultural shape-shifter, Spike Lee for a special conversation celebrating his new book, SPIKE. After which What a perfect way to step into the holiday season! SPIKE is a vibrant visual journey of Spike Lee's journey and includes storytelling by Lee in addition to hundreds of never-before-seen photographs by David Lee, Spike’s official on-set photographer. In opening "the vault" per se, Lee provides behind‐the‐scenes material from the making of his iconic films, documentaries, TV shows, and music videos. Spike Lee is a world-renowned, Academy Award-winning filmmaker, a cultural icon, and one of the most prominent voices on race and racism for more than three decades. Spike Lee produced more than 35 films, including his directorial debut She’s Gotta Have It, his seminal masterpiece Do the Right Thing, and more recently, the Oscar-winning BlacKkKlansman. He is a proud graduate of Morehouse College and New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where he is a tenured Professor of Film and Artistic Director. Spike Lee’s provocativedocumentaries, commercials (Air Jordan), and music videos (Prince, Michael Jackson) have made an indelible mark in both cinematic history and in contemporary society. We are beyond proud to host such an icon in our community in partnership with our friends at Eaton DC. “THIS BOOK REVISITS ALL DA WERK I’VE PUT IN TO BUILD MY BODY OF WORK. FILM IS A VISUAL ART FORM AND THAT SENSE OF MY STORYTELLING HAS BEEN SOMEWHAT OVERLOOKED. WHY NOW, AFTER ALL THESE YEARS? FOLKS BE FORGETTING.” — Spike Lee Advance tickets are required to attend this event. No tickets will be sold at the door. Regretfully, Mr. Lee cannot sign other items or memorabilia.
