This 6-hour interactive workshop will explore assessing, diagnosing and treating various addictive disorders using a trauma-informed perspective. Topics include: Dopamine addiction including both substance and behavioral addictions, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) as a precursor of Addiction, the pursuit of pleasure and avoidance of pain dilemma, brain-based addiction treatment strategies, and practical tools to operationalize the power of neuroplasticity to help clients achieve and sustain connection and recovery
Diagnosis of Substance-Related and Addictive Disorders will be included utilizing DSM criteria.
Jana Hinz is a licensed clinical marriage and family therapist, licensed masters addiction counselor and adjunct professor at Friends University. She is passionate about helping others transform their lives by renewing their minds. Jana uses brain-based therapies to support her clients in moving toward health and improved quality of life and relationships. Jana has extensive experience working with individuals in active addiction and transitioning into early recovery. She believes that addiction begins as an attempted solution to a painful problem and that recovery is achievable and sustainable. She is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy.
