Description

This IN-PERSON CLE explores ways to create a meaningful relationship between an attorney who is designating another attorney to act for them On December 17, 2021, from 10 am – 2 pm, the Chief Justice’s Commission on Professionalism will hold an in-person Designated Attorney Fellowship and CLE at the Emory Conference Center Hotel, 1615 Clifton Road, Atlanta, Georgia 30329. This CLE is approved for 3 CLE hours, including 1 professionalism hour and 1 ethics hour. The $185 registration fee includes the cost of all CLE fees, a hot breakfast buffet with omelet and pancake stations, lunch with a hot entrée, and covered parking under the hotel. All meals are included to encourage attorneys to fellowship with one another before and after the CLE. This in-person CLE explores ways for all attorneys – regardless of age – to create a meaningful relationship between the attorney and a designated attorney. Over the past several years, the State Bar of Georgia has asked each Bar member to name a designated attorney when they complete their Bar dues statement, in case the Bar member becomes an “absent attorney,” one who leaves the practice of law with little to no advance warning, whether due to death, disability or otherwise. This CLE will help all attorneys – regardless of age – to better understand the impact of succession planning on clients, colleagues, opposing counsel, and the courts. Hopefully, during the CLE, attorneys will also receive practical tips to help make succession planning impactful. Chief Justice David E. Nahmias will make closing remarks. NO WALK-Ins are allowed for this CLE. Pre-registration is required so that we can ensure compliance with CDC Guidelines for COVID-19. Space is limited. CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICY Cancellation of registration must be received in writing no later than Wednesday, December 15, 2021. Cancellations will receive a refund of the registration fee, less a $25 administrative charge. Absolutely no refunds will be made after Wednesday, December 15, 2021. Please email your cancellation and refund requests to Karlise Y. Grier at [email protected]. SAFETY PROTOCOL In an effort to keep everyone safe during this meeting, the Commission respectfully requests that all in-person attendees follow the guidelines below. 1. Masks covering the nose and mouth are required in the Lullwater Ballroom during the CLE. 2. Meeting chairs will be spaced at least 6 feet apart. 3. Any person who attends the CLE is certifying that he or she is free of COVID-19 symptoms and known exposure that poses a significant threat of infection. Any person entering this CLE waives all civil liability against the Chief Justice’s Commission on Professionalism for any injuries caused by the inherent risk associated with contracting COVID-19 at public gatherings, except for gross negligence, willful and wanton misconduct, reckless infliction of harm, or intentional infliction of harm, by the Chief Justice’s Commission on Professionalism. The Chief Justice's Commission on Professionalism, the first body of its kind in the nation, was created in 1989 by the Supreme Court of Georgia with the primary charge to enhance professionalism among Georgia's judges and lawyers. In carrying out its charge, the Commission provides ongoing attention and assistance to the task of assuring that the practice of law remains a high calling, enlisted in the service of client and public good. Composed of representatives of the organized bar, practicing bar, judiciary, law schools and the public, the Commission serves as the institutional framework for sustaining an environment that fosters professionalism in the legal community.
