Description
Winter Solstice Despacho Ceremony and Sound Bath A despacho is a prayer bundle. It is a ceremonial offering that has been shared with us by the Q'ero people of the high Andes mountains in Peru. This act of reciprocity or 'ayni' has been practiced since ancient times. It is a very powerful way of giving thanks to Mother Earth, and to help us come into balance with ourselves, the land, and our ancestors. During the ceremony we will also journey with the sounds of crystal bowls, the gong, chimes and bells. This will allow us to connect more deeply with the ritual and open us up to receive the blessings more fully. Our offering will include rice, sugar, nuts, seeds, beans, dried fruit, chocolate, candy, wine, spices, and flowers. We like the offering to be abundant and beautiful in nature, just as if we were giving a gift to an actual mother figure in our lives. We then blow our intentions and prayers into a group of three leaves, or a 'kintu,' from a scared plant. In the Andes they use coca leaves, but in other parts of the world we can use a local plant such as bay leaves or the leaves from a rose bush. Once the ceremony is completed, I will then burn it in a fire ceremony to release our prayers to the spirit world. On this particularly auspicious night of the Winter Solstice, we will come together; in the stillness, and darkness, of our internal landscape. We will honor the arrival of blessings and new beginnings that this special time of year has to offer us. It is a group healing event that will allow for great and subtle shifts to occur. I always ask that we experience these shifts in a gentle manner. My main intention is for us all to receive blessings as we 'dream a new world into being' as the Q'ero say. I only ask that we show up with the utmost respect and reverence for this ritual and the ancient traditions and peoples that brought it to us. With munay, Mara We ask that you wear comfortable clothes, and bring a yoga mat, pillow(s), blanket and anything else that will allow you to feel cozy and at ease. *Doors will open at 6:15, so come early to reserve your spot.
