STAMFORD, CT — Gov. Ned Lamont announced on Friday that a special election will take place on Jan. 25 for the vacant 144th House District seat in Stamford.
The seat was left open when Stamford Mayor Caroline Simmons' officially resigned on Nov. 30 ahead of her swearing-in ceremony. Simmons served the 144th District for seven years.
Under state law, the governor is required to issue a writ of special election within 10 days of a seat in the General Assembly becoming vacant, and a special election must be held 46 days after the writ is issued.
