STAMFORD, CT — A 35-year-old Stamford man has been charged with attempted murder after police said he fired several shots at someone in broad daylight in Stamford's South End on Nov. 20. Capt. Richard Conklin of the Stamford Police Department said Brandon Jones was arrested in an early morning raid at his Glenbrook Road apartment Thursday on a warrant that charges him with criminal attempt at murder, criminal possession of a firearm, criminal use of a firearm and first-degree reckless endangerment. Conklin said around 1:39 p.m. on Nov. 20 in the 40-block of Woodland Avenue, Jones fired several shots at an intended victim. No one was struck by gunfire, and both men fled the scene, Conklin said, adding that a number of .40 caliber casings were found nearby. Investigators looked at multiple angles of surveillance footage in the area and interviewed witnesses to try and identify Jones, Conklin said. After an arrest warrant was signed for, officers from the SPD's Special Response Team and Major Crimes Unit went to Jones' Glenbrook Road apartment around 5:20 a.m. on Thursday, Conklin said. After knocking briefly and receiving no answer, officers gained entry into the apartment and Jones tried running out, said Conklin; Jones and officers struggled briefly before he was placed in custody. A search of Jones' apartment found a quarter of an ounce of cocaine, approximately an ounce of heroin, a little more than eight ounces of marijuana, 12 oxycodone pills and 22 amphetamine pills, according to Conklin. Officers also found $510 in cash, and a magazine from a pistol, which was loaded with three rounds of .40 caliber ammunition — the same kind found at the scene of the November shooting, Conklin said. No gun was found. Jones was additionally charged with possession of narcotics, possession with intent to sell, operating a drug factory, possession of marijuana over five ounces and interfering with police. The arrest warrant held a $250,000 bond. An additional $25,000 was added for the drug charges stemming from the apartment search, Conklin said. Jones has a court date of Dec. 23, according to Conklin. "This was a very complex investigation by our major crimes unit which led to this arrest warrant," Conklin said, mentioning Sgt. Bryan Cooper and investigators Luis Serna, Frank Laccona and Phil Neri. "This was a very blatant daytime type of shooting. We're happy to bring this to a positive conclusion with this arrest." Conklin said it's unclear what caused the shooting. He said the intended victim has refused to cooperate with the investigation.
