HAMDEN, CT — Mayor Lauren Garrett is reinstating Hamden's indoor mask mandate after the town received notification of a positive test for the omicron COVID-19 variant. In consultation with the Quinnipiack Valley Health District, Garrett has signed an executive order to reinstate the mask mandate, effective 12:01 a.m. on Dec. 11. Masks will be required in any indoor public spaces, regardless of vaccination status, according to a news release from the mayor's office. "Vaccination is the primary preventative method to control the spread of COVID-19," the news release states. "Preventing the spread of COVID-19 is a multi-pronged approach which includes frequent hand washing, maintaining social distancing indoors, avoiding large social gatherings, vaccination, and wearing masks indoors. "Doing our part in preventing the spread of COVID-19 will protect us and keep us all safe. "We want our town to thrive, and with this mask mandate, we can stay open by taking these healthy and safe measures."
