ABINGDON, MD — An apartment fire broke out Friday in Abingdon Friday, according to officials. A neighbor noticed the fire in the 300 block of Tiree Court shortly after 12 p.m., the fire marshal reported. Because it began outside, the blaze did not trigger any smoke alarms or sprinklers. Investigators said the fire was caused by a heater igniting combustibles on the exterior balcony. The Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company reported that it was at the scene before 12:30 p.m. It shared the picture below, which also shows the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company at the location in the Monmouth Meadows community. About 35 firefighters responded, bringing the blaze under control in 15 minutes, according to the fire marshal. Nobody was injured in the fire, which officials said caused $5,000 in damage.
