Annapolis Condo Fire: 18 Rescued, 10 Displaced, 1 Hospitalized

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Around 10 people were displaced and one has been hospitalized after a fire broke out late Tuesday at a six-story condominium structure in the 100 block of Severn Avenue. Firefighters were dispatched at around 11:59 p.m. to the high-rise after receiving multiple reports of a structure fire with entrapment, and they found "heavy fire" on the second-floor balcony, Annapolis Fire Department officials said in a news release. Most of the fire was contained to that balcony, where the fire originated, officials said. Some had spread to the adjacent condos. Around 60 responding firefighters took about 45 minutes to bring the fire under control, officials said. There were no reported injuries to fire personnel. Firefighters evacuated 18 people from the building, and one was transported to an area hospital for smoke inhalation, officials said. The Red Cross was called to assist with approximately 10 displaced residents. "A special thank you to Pro Tech LLC and the Eastport Yacht Club for opening their doors to assist those temporarily displaced by the fire," the Fire Department said. The cause and cost of damage are still under investigation by the Fire and Explosives Services Unit, officials said.
