OSWEGO, IL — Residents and visitors who made plans to visit Oswego's Holiday Drive-Through at Venue 1012 on Friday will have to wait one more week for the festivities. Village officials announced Thursday the event will be postponed to Dec. 17 due to forecasted rain. "We wouldn't want Santa's elves to catch a cold during such a busy time of year," reads a news release from the village. The drive-through, an extension of Christmas Walk celebrations that took place in Oswego Dec. 3, returns by popular demand this winter after a successful event amid the pandemic in 2020. The event is ideal for social distancing since visitors can experience the sights and sounds of the holidays while driving through Venue 1012, located at 1012 Station Drive. "Last year's event was such a great way to celebrate Christmas, even though we couldn't gather together, we wanted to bring it back and add even more fun to the holidays," Village President Troy Parlier said. Illuminated first-responder vehicles, holiday scenes and songs, plus a "whole cast of your favorite holiday characters" will greet visitors at the entertainment center starting at 4:30 p.m. Dec. 17. The show, with presenting sponsor Allied First Bank, will run until 8:30 p.m. Santa Claus is slated to make an appearance, and children will be gifted goody bags from Santa's elves. "Allied First Bank has enjoyed being part of Oswego's annual Christmas Walk, we were glad to help bring another opportunity to celebrate the holidays to the community," Ken Bertrand, bank President and CEO, said in a statement. "We can't wait to see you and your families there."
