Press release from the City of Kansas City: 12/09/2021 9:30 AM NEWS RELEASE CONTACT: Douglas Jones, City Auditor, (816) 513-3300 The City Auditor's Office is conducting an audit to review board and commission disclosure filings. Boards and commissions have major authority and responsibilities within Kansas City government. In Fiscal Year 2018, 14 boards and commissions had combined spending of about $328 million. City Code identifies over 50 boards and commissions whose members must submit conflict of interest reports to the City Clerk. These reports disclose certain real estate, business, and personal interests, and are public records maintained by the City Clerk. Our 2019 VisitKC audit found that not all board members were filing disclosure reports as required. Use of city funds and many city services and functions – economic development, planning, parks, art, etc. – are influenced and/or carried out by appointed boards and commissions. Conflict of interest reports are an important tool to help ensure the transparent and ethical use of public resources. The objective of this audit is to determine whether members of boards and commissions are submitting conflict of interest disclosures as required by city code. View the audit Scope Statement online on our Recent Reports page. The scope statement is scheduled to be presented at the Council Business Session at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021.
