Description
LEMONT, IL — A home in unincorporated Lemont Township is a total loss after a fire early Friday, the Lemont Fire Protection District said. At 1:37 a.m. Friday, firefighters arrived in six minutes to a house fire in the 0-100 block of Horseshoe Lane and found a working fire spreading quickly through the first floor of a single-family home and extending to the second floor, the district said.
The resident of the home was able to self-evacuate prior to the arrival of fire companies, according to the district. Crews attempted an interior attack, but had to switch to a defensive strategy because of fire conditions, the district said.
A MABAS box alarm was also activated due to the lack of a water supply in the area, the district said. The fire was brought under control in two hours, and crews remained on the scene extinguishing hots spots and investigating the cause for another five hours, the district said.
The home was a total loss, according to the district.
Lemont Fire Protection District personnel fought the fire with assistance from over 18 surrounding fire agencies, which provided on-scene support and station coverage.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the MABAS Division 19 Fire Investigators and the Illinois Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal, the district said.
